The night this book began, missiles crossed the sky over Dubai. I was at dinner. And I watched a room full of powerful people do the most human thing imaginable. They looked up, they made a judgment, and they chose how to respond. No dashboard, no model, just judgment under a lit up sky. I went home and started writing, because the book's argument is right there in its title. Hidden power, AI dread, or unimaginable prosperity. Both futures are real. Both are already arriving, sometimes on different floors of the same building. And here's the part every leader needs to hear. Nothing in the technology decides which one you get. Nothing. Leadership choices do. That's why the subtitle is, A Fight, Not A Forecast. The fight for what we value most. The hidden power itself? It's not in the server room. It's judgment. It's staying the author of your own thinking. It's the trust that carries a hard decision through an organization. Three assets that decide who wins this era, and almost nobody is measuring them. I spent five years and 6,000 executive interviews proving that. And the keynote moves between the evidence and the stories from the rooms where I watched it play out. So on stage I open with a vote, hands up, dread, or prosperity. Then 90 minutes later I ask again, and the hands move, every time. Not because I cheered anyone up, because the choice finally looks like what it is. A choice. With owners and Monday actions. The book is out on 1 November, with Amplify and Thinkers50, and signed copies come with the keynote. But the talk is the book alive, shaped to your room, and it ends the way the book ends. The technology was never the difference. We are.

THE KEYNOTE

Hidden Power is the featured author keynote, drawn from the book published on 1 March 2027 by Amplify in association with Thinkers50.

It begins in the rooms where the decisions actually get made — sovereign boards, cabinet offices, executive committees — and it makes a single argument. Artificial intelligence is producing two plausible futures at once: dread, displacement and the quiet surrender of human authority, or a period of prosperity and human possibility without precedent. Nothing in the technology decides which one arrives. Leadership choices do.

Dr Kate Barker sets out what she calls the hidden power: judgement, cognitive agency and relationship capital, the human advantages that decide who wins the AI era and that almost no organisation is measuring. The keynote moves between the evidence — doctoral research across six thousand executive leaders — and the stories from inside the most consequential rooms in the world, and it ends where the book ends, on the fight for what we value most.

Available with signed copies for delegates. Especially suited to mainstage keynotes, annual conferences, leadership summits and author events.
