Behind Closed Doors

In every organization I work with, there are two meetings, the one on the agenda and the one in the corridor afterwards, where people finally say what they actually think. Everything important lives in the second meeting. This session exists to collapse the two into one. Behind closed doors is not a keynote, no stage, no audience, no performance. It's a private session for boards, executive committees, and leadership teams sitting in front of a decision that carries real consequence. We shape it around your agenda. Then we go after the questions underneath it, what's actually changing, what nobody has said out loud yet, which calls must stay human, who answers when it goes wrong, and what this organization can credibly do next as opposed to what the strategy deck says it will. Here's what I know after three decades in these rooms. Candour is the scarcest resource in any leadership team. It doesn't need a workshop. It needs a closed door, and someone from outside willing to go first. That's my job. I ask the questions that are awkward for anyone on the payroll to ask. And there's a moment in every one of these sessions, usually somewhere past the first hour. When someone senior finally says the thing everyone came to say, you can feel the room exhale. Everything after that moment is the real meeting. What's said in these rooms stays in them, not as a courtesy as the whole point, which is also why this is the one session I can't show you. No clips, no highlights. That should tell you exactly what it is. So if your board or your top team has been circling a conversation for months, stop circling. Close the doors. I'll go first.
