Panel: AI for Humanity – Designing Ethical Systems for Global Equity
During UNGA Week 2025, Dr Kate Barker joined heads of state, senior UN officials, and Fortune 500 executives for a high-level dialogue on AI for Humanity, a flagship session focused on the ethical deployment of artificial intelligence in global development.
Her address examined how AI can accelerate progress toward the UN Sustainable Development Goals when paired with robust governance, transparency, and trust-based oversight. Dr Barker introduced a multi-level AI governance framework that embeds foresight, ethics, and inclusion directly into international policymaking. Drawing on her experience advising sovereign entities and global boards, she argued that human intelligence—not technological capability—must remain the governing system behind innovation.
Her recommendations urged the UN to move from reactive regulation toward anticipatory design, integrating ethical principles into AI development from inception. The panel outcomes shaped the UN’s 2025 consultation on Responsible AI for Development, reinforcing Dr Barker’s position as a leading global voice in AI ethics, leadership trust, and technology governance.
The session was widely referenced across diplomatic briefings and cited by delegates as among the most pragmatic contributions to defining AI’s role in equitable global transformation.
